game tomorrow means light activity today.
Tags: #gpoy #me #muscles #rugbyso at the constant urging of one of the guys who works for the rugby union, i went and checked out a crossfit workout. not impressed. first off the workout wasn’t as badass as the “hardcore” looking logo indicated. i mean its great to get people pumped up for exercise (that’s the point) but what’s with the high contrast black and white in your face fist pump with nautical stars? i digress.
so the workout was for all intents and purposes a rugby warm up session. but it looses the purpose because it’s timed. no one should be doing high rep olympic lifts. your body isn’t designed to do that and you risk seriously fucking up your central nervous system if you keep doing high rep olympic lifts over a long period of time.
also, the workout had very little direction:
- bench press
- pull ups
- snatch
- rowing machine
- done as a fast as you can circuit
what? if you’re trying to build strength, then build strength. if you’re trying to increase muscle endurance, then increase muscle endurance. there are far better ways to do both than this workout.
i also looked at some other workouts they have. what they do is write a workout of the day on the wall and let people have at it. the past two weeks worth of workouts at that place were all over the map. similar as above in terms of mixed up high rep movements, but no direction or focus.
also, here i was doing strict dead hang pull ups and everyone else looked like they were trying fight their way through a giant spider web. a “kipping” pull up apparently. in other words, a cheating pull up.
i guess it boils down to another fitness fad that is marketed once again to the masses. hard core logos, “barebones” gyms, knee high socks and converse. i do give them credit for trying to incorporate the core lifts: bench, deadlift, squat and it’s true that their approach is better than other fitness fads, but it’s still a fad with no focus. what is the ultimate goal of a crossfitter? the really down side to it is that it’s a major injury waiting to happen. like damaged nervous systems or kidney poisoning type injuries. again, the human body is not made to do olympic lifts in high repetition and for speed.
i see now why almost all of the guys on the team scoff at crossfit.
ok, i’m done.
this is the university of chicago. i was there this morning again—or at least on the campus. the library is amazing and one of the truest places in chicago. my mother always wanted me to go here. she thought life is more interesting for people who use their brains. … i wonder if i’d ever have a chance of transferring there from uic… do they even consider transfers from uic?
Tags: #uchicago #university of chicago #higher learning #collegethere’s just marriage. i get so sick and tired of people debating this like it’s a real thing. two people on the train today debating the fuck out of something that has no bearing on their heterosexual lives. actually they weren’t even debating, they were preaching to their own choir about how wrong gay marriage is and how it’s immoral and against god’s law. guess what assholes, marriage is a state institution and not a religious one because by law it can’t be. separation of church and state means that the catholic church has no say in the matter—eating meat on fridays during lent is legal isn’t it?
because i know the difference between dreams and reality.

is still here. i mean she’s not physically here, i’ll probably never see her again. but she’s still here.
blue shirts, blue dishes, blue rooms, blue drinks. but apparently blue eyes are different. she wore a blue shirt, which she can remove. but her eyes were blue and she can’t change that. and they were big and beautiful and glued to me. i’m a 26 year old male and she was old enough to be at the bar and it’s been a while and you know the rest. but remember, blue is usually my least favorite color.
